Thanks for the response. I will try those links. I thought I downloaded the Avid Codecs as I have in the past and installed but no luck when I installed. They worke great on Mavericks with Avid 7 but on high sierra with composer ultimate all sorts of problems. Yes I do use VLC and quicktime player for years. It opens reluctantly in quicktime7 but I think I am missing an audio component as the sound doesn't play. This is all weird as things worked great on MC 7 and Mavericks. Maybe I can download Final Cut X on this system and it will come with all the needed codecs ?
Another few thoughts... Do you check 'Use Avid codecs' under the Same As Source Export settings? What codec are the audio clips in your Avid sequence? Does the problem persist if you do an Audio Mix-down before exporting?
Thanks for that. Yes same as source export always. DNX 36 codec from resolve. Mixdown is an option but not prefered. I am thinking I might have some corruption in the sequence and am doing some further testing with other sequences. Are mixed resolutions and codecs on a single timeline an issue ? I have asked it to ignnore and continue two small offline clips. Can that couse a problem ?
I am running media composer ultimate on High Sierra Mac OS. It is the latest and greatest version of Avid. When outputing sae as source DNX 36 movie will not play in Quicktime or any of my encoders ie Apple Compressor, Adobe Media Encoder etc. This used to be my M.O. on OS mavericks. Solutions ? Avid changed the names on the DNxHD codecs when they became resolution independent. DNX LB in HD is DNX 36 with a different name. Unfortunately, computer programs don't do well with nicknames so you need a updated codec package to understand that they're the same. QuickTime Player X will read updated codecs from Apple's ProVideo Formats updates as will Compressor X but...only on 64-bit MacOS versions: 10.14 Catalina or 10.15 Big Sur. QuickTime 7 will shrug it's shoulders and tell you something's weird when you play DNX LB and it's expecting DNX 36. VLC will play almost anything.

You may have seen the ominous warning in Final Cut about legacy media. Apple released an update to their KnowledgeBase website which includes MUCH more detail on what codecs are affected and which ones are not.

Thanks for all of your help! It really is appreciated. I have installed quicktime and the DNxHD codecs. But for some reason *.mov is still not an option in my Vegas 12 render window. Do you know why this might be?
DNx codecs are broken when updating to AE 22.3, which affects usability with any high profile Avid projects. Any QTs exported with DNx codecs will no longer import into the Avid, and you also cannot re-import these exports into AE.The codecs work if you roll back to AE 22.2.1
Apparently the changes have been made so that QTs will work in the LATEST version of Avid Media. However, this has the huge side effect that pretty much all other software that supports DNxHD quicktimes will no longer work, including any older versions of Avid Media Composer and After Effects itself. 2b1af7f3a8
